IN DEFENCE OF DIVERSITY

an interesting one indeed.

hadief shafie 11575

There has recently been built in Merton in south London a ‘mega mosque’ that has inevitably become the focus of much controversy. In his book The British Dream, David Goodhart, director of the centre-left think tank Demos, takes the mosque as symbolic of the unacceptable change that immigration has wrought upon the nation. The mosque, he writes, ‘replaced an Express Dairies bottling plant which provided a few hundred jobs for local people and lots of milk bottles — an icon of an earlier, more homogenised age’.

A poem by Jessica’s: A Translation in Turkish, humble attraction.

Bırakın Ki Onu

Beyaz içersinde elbiseler,

Çiçekler, benzer.

Partiler ve keyifleri,

Sikkeleridir saklanacak.

Kızlık rüyaları ve,

Sevgilinin sahte yolları.

Düğünler ve de dilekleri,

Gıdıklamalar ve de öpücükler.

Garipçe bir kız, garipçe de bir rüya,

Kendinden pek çokça, yalnız ve uzağa akıntıda.

Pek fazlasınca şey istemiyor;

Çiçekler veya benzerini.

Verin ona toprağını,

Verin ona kendi elini.

Bırakın ki yazsın,

Bırakın ki döğüşsün,

Bırakın ki olsun,

Ah, hatıralar…

Bırakın ki bakadursun,

Bırakın ki bellesin.

Bırakın ki, arasın,

Kendince bir kaderi.
